This Activity Adventure is designed for children to learn all about OWLS and how they differ from other birds of prey.

We start by defining the characteristics of
raptors generally, and of owls in particular. Then we look at the UK's 5 native owl species and talk about their different lifestyles & habitats; discuss owl biology relative to hunting skills, focusing on silent flight, eyesight and hearing; and explore the fact that not all owls are nocturnal.  Then we will examine some of the extraordinary owl folklore, myths and legends that perpetuate around the world today.

Activities include a behind-the-scenes guided tour of the centre; owl pellet investigation and inspection; making owl masks, paper-bag puppets and clay models; at least one flying display and finally a rare chance to get close to the birds, with plenty of great photo opportunities - so bring a photo-phone or camera!

The Activity Adventure starts at 10.30am and finishes at about 2.15pm. Numbers are limited, so advance booking is necessary and for non-school groups, places are limited to 16 per adventure, so please e-mail info@owlbarn.co.uk or phone 01449 711425 for dates & bookings.  Please note that for reasons of safety there is no actual handling of birds by young visitors during this event.
